Here's a healthy habit - kick a cleaner!

It’s that time of year when everyone is stuck inside and about every post you see is someone complaining about being sick, or their kids being sick, so you see a lot of “Lysol everything” posts.


Instead of being cringe worthy or shaming anyone for using Lysol, I wanted to share some information.


We don’t know what we don’t know until we know it - confused yet?  Sorry…..

Did you know that Lysol spray is purposely made sticky? 


You spray it in the air and it doesn’t actually get rid of any of the smell, it just covers it up. The sticky spray particles are inhaled by you, and anyone in sniffing distance, coating the hairs in your nose so you can only smell the Lysol. The bad smell is still in the air, you just can’t smell anything but what is stuck up your nose, hence anyone in smelling distance, their nose hairs are also coated.


The sticky particles are also inhaled into your lungs. Your lungs will produce mucus to rid the of the sticky substance. When excess mucous floods your lungs, you start noticing chest congestion and wheezing.  Maybe, hopefully, coughing to clear it out, but ultimately, you are drowning in your own phlegm. This is an asthmatic reaction that can send the more sensitive to the Emergency Room. 


Do you really want to subject yourself or loved ones, who may already be sick, to something that causes even more breathing problems?


Lysol also has other harmful effects that damage body systems.   Did you know that toxins found in everyday cleaners, including Lysol, contribute significantly to mental health disorders like ADHD, autism, and other learning disabilities?  Think of infants and children who are still developing.   


We need to stop overwhelming our endocrine system, think hormone production, growth and development, production of melatonin and cortisol that regulate sleep and stress.  When we subject our bodies, and our kids bodies, to the toxins in cleaners like Lysol, we really start screwing with these systems are supposed to be doing.  Changing how things are supposed to work can lead to changes in behavior, motor skills, anxiety, and even impaired cognitive and memory functions.


Being the gatekeeper to our homes is one of our biggest responsibilities.  We may not have much control over what company puts what into their products, but we can control what products we allow into our homes.   We need to educate ourselves and each other and protect our families.    Let’s face it,  all those huge companies out there - do you think their top concern is ridding toxins from your home and making things safe?  Or in maxing out their income potential?

  

Again, we don’t know what we don’t know…...until we educate ourselves and the people around us.


Let’s educate about toxins and mindsets that are EVERYWHERE and learn more about the healthy, natural alternatives that are available to us.  Options that strengthen our bodies and minds.
